How is PET recycled?

Polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as PET or PETE, is the clear plastic used for water, soft drink, fruit containers, packs for baked goods and meat trays. It’s globally recognised as a non-toxic, strong, lightweight, flexible material that can be fully recycled.

PET is the most widely recycled plastic in the world; the main challenge facing recyclers is availability of product for recycling. If the waste management problem can be fixed, and we can stop PET from going to landfill, the world will be in better shape.

Here’s how PET is turned into RPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate):
